How Does the Series Work?: Each story is based on a different phonic rule with a step by step framework including the Phonics Rule Pages, Word Lists and Storyline Comprehension Question, Sound and Letter Page for the beginning reader, Helpful Hints on Learning to Read which was written for parents.; Use the Phonic Rule Page to introduce and explain the rule of the story before the 20 page illustrated story begins. Even if your knowledge is limited on phonics this page makes it easy to teach phonics to young children. The sight words used in the story are listed for review before the story begins.; The 20 Page Illustrated Story include repetition, rhyming and humor as the story is read. The illustrations provide visual clues, yet are simple.; The Word List Page includes all the words from the story. This is a great place to pull phonetic spelling lists for the week. Three Storyline Comprehension Questions are also listed on the Word List Page. This page provides you with tools to assess the children's reading comprehension and review of the phonic rule.
Who is the Series for?: The Series is ideal for beginning readers or in teaching decoding skills for the remedial reader. Many young children have learned to read with Fat Cat and the Rat, Level One. Older students use the Series to teach and strengthen their phonic and decoding skills. Even students in the Middle and High School level who are still struggling use the Series because they can and do achieve success.
